Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Visitation rights of a minor

My son is 15. His dad and I were never married. They have had a strained relationship over the years because he (father) is an alcoholic and suffers from emotional problems... depression, bi-polar disorder, suicide attempts, etc. My son does not want to continue to ''visit'' with his dad and I am having a hard time making him go. Given his dad's hisory, am I obligated to enforce this visitation?

Re: Visitation rights of a minor

To Whom It May Concern:

This is in response to your email of September 26, 2001, which this office received on November 6, 2001.

Although your son is 15, he has not yet reached the age of majority. Hence, until your court order is changed, you are obligated to enforce the visitation as ordered by the court.

Thank you for your question.

Very truly yours,

Nichols & Eberth, P.C.
