Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

No visitations with child

My husband has court ordered visitations with his daughter, now age 13. His daughter says she does not want to come over anymore because her father has not made it to any of her ballgames and doesn't spend 1:1 with her (we have three other children together). My husband has not been able to make many of her ballgames due to work. Her mother is supporting her not wanting to visit. We have never done anything wrong to her and enjoy our visits with her. Can the court force her to come since she is only 13?

Re: No visitations with child

The court can force it. However, the animosity that will result will not be worth it. What I encourage people to do in these situations it to show up to events, such as ballgames, school things, etc. Stay in the background. Lay low. Most of these kids come around at age 14-15. It is essential that the kids know that you want to maintain the relationship. As a matter of act, it would be extremely beneficial if you would bring some of your other kids to such events. Just don't be too overwhelming. I know that most lawyers encourage the intervention of the courts and system to solve such problems. However, many times, such intervention causes much more harm than good. My advice is based on 25 years of domestic relation experience.
