Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

I will try to make this extremely long story short. I got divorce in 2013 in Michigan. I moved to Virginia with my now husband for his job he was my boyfriend at the time, my ex husband and I let the kids then 6 and 7 decide where they wanted to live. The decided to stay in Michigan. I have had continues contact with them. They would come down here for their school vacations, video and or talk on the phone and I would also make several trips a year up to see them as well as pay my ex support. We are moving back to Michigan in a few weeks and I have been trying to come to an agreement with my ex husband on a new parenting arrangement. Our current order is I have them the week of Thanksgiving, one week during Winter break, the week of Spring break and 8 weeks out of the summer. I had initially agreed to change the summer visitation so he could have time with the kids as well since I will be in state. We had agreed to an alternating week schedule. Now here is the problem, he refuses to come to an agreement for after the summer, I have suggested we keep the alternating weeks going after summer was over as well as a 3-3-4-4 schedule both of which he has said no to. He only wants me to have them 1 day a week and every other weekend. I do not agree to this. His reasoning is that he thinks that I am only moving back up there to get on public assistance (which we do not qualify for) to make him pay child support. I have told him several times I do not want his money I only want to have equal time with the boys. We do have a court date June 17th and I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about this. I know how bad it looks going in front of the judge because we cant agree on this. Should I seek council for this matter, as I'm not sure what to do. He is not being cooperative at all and I really do not want to have to pay for a lawyer. I'm also worried that I will not get equal time with the boys because I have been out of state of 2 1/2 years. Please any help or advice would be great. Should I agree to the schedule he suggested or fight for equal time with them.
