Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan
Abuse by the court. Case #CIV 06-1430
On July 6, 2006, I appeared in the 15th Judicial District Court in Ann Arbor to answer a summons regarding a 10+-year old credit card bill that I think belongs to my ex-wife (divorced in 1995). I received a continuance until September 12, 2006, and asked for disclosure material, with the understanding that, if it was my bill, I would pay it. Two weeks later, July 14, 2006, the court issued a judgement for the Plaintiff without ever notifying me or honoring the continuance granted by Judge Julie Creal Goodridge! I cannot afford an attorney and I feel the court, along with plaintiff, has taken advantage of this and ''secretly'' issued a summary disposition and ''closed the case''.

You must ask for a rehearing of the decision within 10 days (file within 10 days. The hearing can be later). You can appeal but this takes too long and you must post 1 1/4 the amount of the judgment as a bond. William S. Stern

I very much doubt that Judge Goodridge was involved in a conspiracy with Plaintiff. Most likely, the problem is that you are not an attorney and, therefore, are not familiar with court rules and procedures.
