Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan
Hello my name is Brianna.
A week ago my mother received a call from an attorney regarding a civil matter. The attorney explained that they have been looking for me to serve me papers, but they have been unable to find me. They said if I don't respond they can access anything I own, accounts, or garnish my wages. I used to live in California and moved to Michigan 2 years ago. I suspect my identity was stolen, but I don't know what Im being sued for or how long the claim has been against me. How do I find out more information about this case while protecting my identity. I have not renewed my license in the last year, and that is why they have been unable to track me. If I renew my license will they come to serve me? The lawyer would not give his name or info to my mother, and would not accept not talking with me personally. What do I do??

Accept the papers then deal with the underlying issue. If you don't get them, they will enter an order for alternate service and just mail them and if you don't get them, a default will enter. If you need to discuss, call me at (313)402-0853. Tim Klisz
