What would happen if you are a co-signed on a home for someone else. you sold your house and rented. The aprty that you cosigned for had their housr foreclosd on.

if you cosigned on a mortgage or loan and the other party defaults, you are responsible for the entire debt. if it's a mortgage, whether or not the lender attempts to collect from you depends on the balance owed and how aggressive they are. it is not just a standard collection action - there is a separate procedure whereby the lender has to obtain a deficiency judgment in order to collect. up until a few years ago the practice was rare, but it is becoming more common since there are so many foreclosures. have you received anything in the mail from the lender? you may wish to contact them to determine what action they are going to take, if any.
