defamation/slander

a family member is threatening a defamation suit against me for the manner in which i handled a family living arragnement that was a problem for the people livng in the house. i left a highly emotional and angry message on this person's machine which lead to this problem and this tape is still in the person's possession and is going to use it against me as well as a letter to the person making the living arrangment a problem. inthis letter i explained the living arrangment problem and in their opinion, i slandered this person living in my home. what is the ooutcome in a case such as this?

First, the defense to slander is truth. If the statements were true, it is not slander per se. Next, he will have to demonstrate damages, which is usually the tough part.

No cristal ball to predict the future, but judges really do not like these types of family disputes in court. Mediation may be helpful.
