Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

Dog fight injuries

Can I be held liable for medical bills for an unleashed dog that attacked myself and dog which was leashed at the time? I was walking my dog when we were attacked by an unleashed dog playing at the park with it's owner (a child). The child did nothing to break-up the fight. I was later confronted by the owner stating that the dog was injured either by my dog or during my fall. My dog and I had some scrapes and bruises, but nothing serious. Can the owner of the unleashed dog come after me for their pet's vet bills?

Re: Dog fight injuries

They could, but it doesn't mean they would be successful and in fact, it sounds like their dog is more at fault since it was not under their control by being on a leash, which is required by state law.

Should they pursue this matter, or if you want to collect your damages against them, please contact me.

Thanks.
