Are photographs considered contemporaneous and verifable proof of someone's history of something?

Sometimes, but you will need someone to authentic and testify as to the accuracy of the photographs, their age, etc, such as the person who took the photographs. You may also need an expert witness if the other side disputes the photographer's testimony, such as the age of the photographs or what they depict.
