Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan
Giving someone ''the finger''
Another car nearly hit me as I was driving - he had to merge into my lane due to a lane closure in his lane. He was in a convertible, so I could see he was on his cell phone. No turn signal, didn't even look in the mirror, and he merged right into my lane nearly hitting me. I ''gave him the finger'' and continued driving. He ended up next to me and screamed, ''I have your picture, I'll sue you.'' Is it illegal to give another motorist ''the finger''? Does he have any grounds to sue me?

No! It's your constitutional right of free expression and a succinct form of communication favored by many Michigan drivers.

No one is going to sue anyone over any such thing. Don't worry about it. William S. Stern
