Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

Interrogatories

I was mailed documents from the defendant's attorney containing: Request For Production of Documents, and

Interrogatories to Plaintiff

I have completed the forms and now need to know if I have to present these to the court and to the defendant's attorney, and if there is a filing fee for these documents?

State of Michigan 37th Judicial District Court

Warren Michigan 48093

This is concerning a fire that occurred in a dwelling I was renting from the defendant. I am suing for $15,000 damages and pain and suffering. I am charging the defendant with neglect. The fire started at the water heater that was located in a closet area that was locked by management and I was not provided a key. I lost all my personal property, including numerous sentimental items, and various electronic equipment.

Re: Interrogatories

Discovery materials should not be filed at the court. You should also be aware that, unless the rules have changed, the court rules do not allow for discovery in the district court UNLESS so ordered by the court. The court freely allows discovery and the request is not often denied. This is to avoid expensive discovery in cases of minimal value.
