what can be done of a judge not looking at evidence and ruling on sympathy

You can either file an appeal, or you can file a grievance against the judge with the state bar. If your case is good, and your evidence compelling, then you will probably get more satisfaction from appealing the bad decision to a higher court. You will receive no financial benefit from filing a grievance.
