Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan
Late fees on bills
What are the laws on late fees as charged to bills. I get a monthly bill at my Real Estate office for fees incurred that month, the bill usually comes out by the 22nd but sometimes not until the 28th...but I am charged $50 extra if not paid by the 30th of that month. Don't they have to give me at least 30 days notice on a bill in order to charge a late fee?

Re: Late fees on bills
I may be mistaken, but I think that the contract between the lender and the borrower defines the deal. Read it. If it is patently unreasonable, it may be possible to set it aside. It would seem to make a good potential class action case under the Michigan Consumer Protection Act. I'd be interested in looking at this case. William S. Stern 248-353-9400
