lawsuit against police dept

my son is being wrongfully accused of a crime and it has cost him money, stress, embarassment, they have slandered him to his employer and they let him go but was rehired. when this is over and he is found not guilty does he have legal recourse angainst the dept.

Possibly. It will depend on other factors, though. And he must win the case in order to consider suing for false arrest or malicious prosecution.
