You must first provide the shop an opportunity to cure the defect, by either finding the coat that is really yours or paying you for any damage and/or replacement. What is the shop's explanation for this? The shop likely attempted to limit its liability by including such language on any document you signed with them. However, that does not mean they are completely off the hook.

Keep in mind that if you sue for money damages, such as the cost of the current value of the coat, you must be able to demonstrate the coat's value, such as by a recent appraisal or insurance policy. Items like a mink coat are difficult to estimate the value, as all coats are different, depending on quality, size, age, condition, country of origin, designer, color, etc.
