Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

Neighbor stalking

The next door neighbor has been harassing my family. We have called the police numerous times and nothing has been done. He has done things like telling my children that he was going to kill them, making our headstones, driving extremely fast down the property line, spitting at us, grabbing his privates (through clothing), yelling obscenities, etc. Is there anything that can be done? We have video taped him but the police say he is on his own property and can do anything he wants. I am at my wits end please give me some advise!!

Re: Neighbor stalking

Take your video tape down to a judge and obtain a personal protection order. Then, if he harasses your children INSIST on pressing charges. Don't let the police dissaude you: they're very used to neighbor on neighbor complaints and often won't take it seriously unless you do something.

Since you can file the paperwork on your own, tell the judge that you are afraid for the lives of your children, and that he has threatened to kill them and engages in dangerous behaviour. YOu might even attach a copy of the videotape as evidence.

At the very least he is disturbing your peace. Good Luck!
