Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

I have an order to appear in court regarding a garnishment that was upon me in January, 2011. I can't make it in to court that day, or I will be fired. Is there anything I can do, or submit to the court to get the date changed? I also can't afford an attorney, so I need to do this on my own.
