Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

I received a felony over 25 years ago for welfare fraud and I have not been on welfare since and I paid back the money that I was accused of which was about 756.00. I tried to explain to the judge at that time what happened, which was I told my worker I had obtained employment but I still received a check for two months after that which I did not return and several months later I received a notice to come to court for this charge. I had totally forgotten about the charge and nothing as ever come up since. i have been employed ever since with never being out of work, I just want it removed. Can you tell me how this can be done?

There is a procedure known as expungement. Generally, you have to have only one conviction on your record and 5 years must have elapsed since the conviction. First, get a copy of your record by going to the State Police. They'll fingerprint you and you can order the certified record. Then file in the court in which the conviction occurred to expunge the conviction. The form is on line.
