Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

Please help

The situation happened back in 2000. I was involved in a car accident and was soon after locked up for 5 years (unrelated incidents). When I got home I attempted to start putting the pieces of my life back together and attempted to get my driver's license. I found out that there was a lein on my license becasue of that car accident. There is a bill racked up to $28,000. This is from fees, court cost, interest etc.... Is there a way to take this to court to get some of these fees reduced so that I may get the lein lifted? What is the best route to take because I need my license to work and I don't have $28,000 to dish out.

Re: Please help

You will need to contact the Secretary of State to determine what can be worked out with regard to the fines, such as a reduction in the amount and a possible payment plan. The fines sound really high, but they are usually willing to work with you. The sooner you address the problem, the better.
