Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

slander done by children

My nephew and a few friends made a song and recorded it on CD. It was a rap song about a girl that attended their school. The song said some bad things about her. The boys gave the Cd out to other students. Now her parents are suing my nephew and the other boys for defamation of character. Can they sue a minor? Are they really suing the parents? Can they take my nephews savings to pay damages, or would they be looking to get money from the parents? These were just kids, can they really sue them for this? Is there anyway to protect his college savings?

Re: slander done by children

Generally, there are several defenses to defamation, truth and some form of privilege are two. In order to fully evaluate your nephews situation and determine who is actually being sued, I would need to review the complaint. I offer a free intial consultation. If your nephew and his parents would like to come in and discuss these claims, have them call me.
