Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan
slander?
I have resigned from my present company and am still working my last couple of weeks. I am transferring to another company in my corporation. My HR rep in my present company told my future company that I ''was forced to resign'' which is absolutely not true. Do I have any legal recourse for her actions? My new company didn't believe her and I still have a job to go to. Thanks!

Re: slander?
What you DON'T want to do is raise any legal issues. Companies are legally protected from slander suits by their employees and you can only make matters worse if you complain to your new assignment or to anyone else in the corporation.
If you wish, ask HR if you can review of your personnel file. If you discover an error, you may ask if it can be corrected.
Remember, you are an at-will employee and can be terminated at any time for any reason - even the wrong reason.
Re: slander?
While her comment made have been defamatory, an element in any case is damages. If her comment had caused you to lose your new job, then you would potentially have a cause. However, it doesn't seem that she has caused you any damages, other than embarassment and anger, which is not enough to prevail in a lawsuit.
Thanks.
