Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

stopping payment on a check

I bought some items for a friend with a verbal aggreement that he would pay me back for these items. Though I did buy a more expensive item then he asked for (with his knowledge). I also loaned him an air mattress. His girlfriend wrote me a check for everything then turned around and cancelled this check. Is there anything that can be legally be done on my part to gain this money back. The amount of the check was only $150.00 and then a fee charged of $10.00. Just curious

You can send them a demand letter asking for the money as you had a verbal contract with them, and you fulfilled your part of the contract. Also, you are entitled to double the amount of the check since it came back NSF due to their cancellation. If you mention that, they should pay you the $160.00 and be done with it.
