Charlie, depending on how long you have been out of status as a student, and depending on a good explanation for being out of status, you may be able to obtain a reinstatement of your student visa. Did you explain to your school the difficulty you were having paying tuition? Often, if you are a student on a visa in your second year or more, you may be permitted to work on a limited basis. You may wish to try to contact an immigration lawyer in Michigan to review your case for a possible request for reinstatement. If you can't find one in Michigan, you can contact my office and I would be happy to review your case. My office uses Skype and we are able to communicate with many potential and active clients over our secured network. Good luck!
