Legal Question in Immigration Law in Michigan

Who Wants to Marry an American?

I would be willing to marry a man who has the dream of becoming an American citizen if he had sufficient financial resources (marriage of convenience). Is there a market for this? What legalities would I need to watch out for? Personally I would think this marriage to be in good faith. I would be helping someone realize the American dream and their financial support (dowry) would help me to better live my American dream. And historically marriage has always been a financial transaction. Any advice?

Re: Who Wants to Marry an American?

USCIS considers this to be marriage fraud (as you have laid out the facts). The alien would be barred from ever being allowed to immigrate to the USA if a finding of marruage fraud was made. You would be subject to both criminal and civil penalties. Love doesn't have to be the reason in order to have a good faith marriage, and there have been marriages based upon financial concerns that have been found to be in "good faith." If the only intent of the marriage is to gain an immigration benefit then it will be held to constitute a sham marriage. I would advise you not to go ahead with your plans.

This is illegal and you could definitely be prosecuted for visa fraud.

This is illegal and constitutes marriage fraud! Sham marriages are subject to penalties and possible jail time.
