Legal Question in Insurance Law in Michigan
Parked Car Hit
My Girlfriend's car was recently backed into when she was working. The guy who did it came into the restaurant and gave her his number. My Girlfriend is a very trusting person and didn't get his last name, or insurance, license plate etc. etc.
Now he's not returning our calls. Using reverse phone book we've found out the address of the phone number, which I assume is his parents house as it isn't under his name. My question is, what exactly can we do to make this guy pay up? Since the accident took place on private property, the police said there was no need to file a report; unless he gives us a hard time. But what exactly can they do to assist us? I'm also curious how much his insurance company will compensate us for on the car, We live in Michigan, which is a no fault state. But he backed into a parked car on a well lit summer day, I would think that there is 100% certainty whose fault it is.
Thanks for your time

Re: Parked Car Hit
As a parked car, it is as good as having your mailbox hit. The person's property protection benefit applies, which gives you 100% of the repair bill plus loss of use (rental car). If you don't know his insurance company, you will need to sue him directly for the loss. Visit www.kliszlaw.com to discuss. Tim Klisz
