Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Michigan

Minor responsibility

I am 17 and hoping to go on a trip with some friends (no adults) over the summer. My father is worried that if something happened to me while I was gone, he could be held legally responsible and potentially prosecuted for negligence. Is this true?

Re: Minor responsibility

Typically, the law does not hold parents vicariously liable for the bad acts of their children unless the parent has done something to encourage or instigate the bad act. If your father does not sign a lease or provide alcohol to minors, etc., he should not likely be exposed to liability.
