Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
There are 10 employees in the nonprofit company that I work for and have worked at for nine years. I was told my position was being "eliminated" April 1, 2011 and that they are creating a couple new positions and that I could apply and interview for the new positions once they are posted. They are being posted internally and externally at the same time. I have been told by the people who told me my job was eliminated that I should turn in my resume and apply for the new position. My question is about getting unemployment and making sure whatever I decide to do, I'm not leaving here with nothing. If I do nothing and decide not to apply, I can apply for unemployment. If I submit my resume and they hire someone else, can I still apply for unemployment?
Please help.
Thank you so much

Yes, you can get unemployment as long as they don't give you a job offer.
