Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
My 17 year old son applied to work at a facility. The top of application said Employment Application. They put him to work for 8.5 hours the same day he applied. He then was told by the other workers that he was just volutneering and he would not get paid. I contacted the faclity via email and got a reply stating that he was just volunteering and they only people who got anything were those who "worked" 10 days and they would receive an "incentive". Is it legal to have someone fill out an "employment application" and not tell them they are volunteering and will not be getting paid, leaving them to find this out from hearsay?

Your son was taught a valuable lesson - one he is unlikely to forget. READ before you sign. He should be grateful for the lesson as it cost him nothing.
He should call the wages and hours division of the state of Michigan department of labor. Sounds fishy to me. Kliszlaw.com. Tim Klisz
