Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
We have a business in a local mall. In November they forced us to up our insurance policy from 1 million to 5 million. It cost us a lot of money, and we still have not earned back the cost. We rely on this business as a source of income from October-April. Our contract is signed from October-April, however it states that the mall can revoke the contract at any time. We just received a notice that we have to be out of the mall by January 17, well before our contract is up and well before we have made any profits. In fact, we are still in the hole. The notification came with no explanation and after trying to contact the mall staff numerous times, we have received no reply. Do we have any legal rights in the situation? We feel the mall should have to refund the 5k we had to front in order to increase our insurance policy, which was apparently completely unnecessary if they were planning to kick us out.

I have never seen a commercial lease that allows the owner to terminate at any time without reasonable notice and without cause. I'm guessing there is some missing facts here. I would certainly need to review the lease as a starter in order to advise you. Sounds like a bad situation for you as a business owner. Visit me at www.kliszlaw.com to discuss the matter in detail.
