Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan

Conflict of Interest

My employer recently found out that I am dating one of our sales reps. Is there any concerns I should have legally? Is this a conflict of interest? Can I be fired? Thanks.

Re: Conflict of Interest

I have reviewed your e-mail regarding a potential conflict of interest as it relates to you and a company sales representative. While I do not have enough information to fully assess your specific situation, in general, whether an employer can discipline and/or fire an employee based on a dating relationship is usually governed by the employee policy. Does your employer have a strict policy against dating co-workers? Is the sales representative a subordinate? Has your supervisor discussed the situtation with you? How has the company handled situtations like this in the past?

In order to fully assess your situation, more information is needed. Please feel free to call me for a free telephone consultation at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Janet Ziulkowski
