Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan

employer misleading

When i was hired by my employer i was told the starting pay is 12 an hour. But weeks later when i recieved my first paycheck for 66 my check stub read a rate of 8.00 per hour, an overtime rate of 12.00, and ''OTHER'' which was basically the remainder to make it 12 straight time. When i asked my foreman why this was like it was he said ''we dont pay overtime''. Is there practice legal just because the rate on my stub says 8.00 and an overtime rate and OTHER. How would my employer be able to explain this OTHER to the DOL?

Re: employer misleading

It appears to me that your employer thinks he has a way around the overtime provisions of the Wage/Hour Act.

I think he's wrong.

Yu can contact the Wage/Hour Division of the Michigan Department of Labor for assistance.
