Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan

My employer requires us to be at work, in the work room at 6am. We are required to wear certain gear only to be put on, on site, which takes roughly 10 minutes to put on. Since we're required to be IN the workroom at 6am we must get there 10-15 min early to have time to get ready or we will get in trouble. Even if we punch in at 5:57 we would still get in trouble because they know that it is not enough ample time to get in the work room. My shift is 6am-6pm. I punch out exactly at 6pm. Here is my question. I am punching in at roughly 5:45am everyday and they are only paying me for 12 hours. Can they pay me for only 12 hours when I am punched in for 12.25 hrs everyday, especially when it is required you be there early?
