Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
Former Employer withholding personal property
After being terminated can a former employer prevent someone from getting their personal property...i.e. laptop. An individual said the belongings would be sent in the mail. Right now they have the ability to get on the computer and access personal information, which doesn't seem legal.

Re: Former Employer withholding personal property
You really have no other option other than to sue the employer in small claims court to recover the computer or the value of same, assuming it is yours and not the employers property.
You could involve the local police, by informing them that your property is being held by him as conversion. You would need to prove it's yours, but withholding it is also a crime. Good luck, Tim Klisz
