Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
Being fired
Does it ever do any good to pursue legal help when being fired because "things were just not working out". This was a manager level position--without a signed contract. I had worked for 4 years and received outstanding reviews but had recently gotten a new boss--and we did not work well together. Is there any recourse--when there doesn't appear to be a logical reason for the termination

Re: Being fired
I frequently counsel fired employees in these circumstances. I have never encountered a firing that truly took place for no reason.
Perhaps discussing the situation with an experienced employment attorney will help you identify the reason. This may be useful to you even if it turns out that the reason for the firing was perfectly legal.
An experienced employment attorney can also counsel you on the posibility of entering into a severance agreement with your former employer and may help you negotiate or draft a severance agreement in appropriate circumstances.
If you have not done so already, you may wish to ask your former employer for an opportunity to review your personnel file. there may be information there that will help you understand the reason for your firing, or at least what your former employer claims the reason was. Michigan law requires the employer to let you review your file if yo make a written request. Here again, an experienced employment lawyer may be able to help you, particularly if your employer refuses to let you review your personnel file.
