In the state of Michigan, are employers required to provide a copy of your personnel file if requested? Is a subpoena necessary?

Yes. Your request must be written so that it, too, can be placed in your personnel file for future review by anyone in management thinking of promoting or retaining you. Persons requesting copies of their personnel file are sometimes viewed as complainers and not looked upon as loyal employees.
