Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
termination
A collegue I know is concerned over a possible termination to his employment.
Rather than waiting for a possible firing, is it acceptable to create a resignation letter dated prior to the final meeting with the employer?

Re: termination
He might profit better from a negotiated release. He should get the facts and then try to negotiate them letting him go on terms favorable to him (such as a lump payment, outplacement services and continued insurance, to replace him going on unemployment). Resigning a job without another one in the hand in this economy just seems foolish, and may cut off his right to recoup the unemployment to which he would presumably be entitled.
