Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
Termination Paperwork
I am wanting to get copies of a written warning and the termination paperwork I was presented with by my past employer. When I asked, they indicated I could only get this information if they received a subpoena. What rights do I have in obtaining this information?

Re: Termination Paperwork
You have a right to see (or copy) your entire personnel file. To do this, you must submit a signed written request to see (or copy) the file to your employer who may charge you a small per page fee for any copies. You do not need a subpoena to see your file.
If your employer refuses to cooperate, you may sue under the Bullard-Plawecki Employee Right to Know Act.
