Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
Are there any other types of workplace harassment?
my supervisor wrote me up one day. while giving me the write up he stated, "why couldn't you just kiss up a little bit?" he was suggesting that i "kiss up" to his supervisor. I was immediately reassigned from my regular work assignment after this statement was made. To me my supervisor's statement insinuated that if i had kissed up to his supervisor, i wouldn't have been reassigned or written up. Is the statement my supervisor made to me a form of harassmet? Does the fact that i was reassigned without notice or reason prove that i am being harassed because i did not "kiss up"? The harassment i am experiencing is not sexual in nature, however i am being harassed. how can i prove this to my employer?

Re: Are there any other types of workplace harassment?
Despite what you (and most other people) may think, it is not illegal for your boss to harass you at work. It is illegal for your boss to treat you diferently than other employees because of your race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age or disability. Sexual harassment is illegal because it is base on sex -- you are being treated diferently than an employee of the opposite sex.
You say that your harassment was not sexual in nature. Do you think you are being harassed because of your sex? If so then it may be illegal. If not, then it is probably not illegal.
