Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
Vacation Pay
I recently left my job of two years, and the company currently owes me my two weeks of vacation pay. It has now been two check runs since I left the company and I have not received my vacation pay. I desperately need this money and they will not return my phone calls. What can I do?

Re: Vacation Pay
Both the U.S. Department of Labor and the Michigan Department of Labor have divisions devoted to wage & hour matters. They have some enforcement powers to compel employers to pay earned amounts for wages. If the vacation pay policy is in writing and states that you will be paid for unused earned vacation time, then they may intervene on your behalf. You may contact a local office for either the U.S. or Michigan Department of Labor and ask to be directed to the person in charge of wage/hour matters.
