Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
I'm wondering what conditions would qualify as hostile working environment. There is one human resource lady at my boyfriend's place of employment that seems to have a personal vendetta with him. She goes around behind his back trying to find things to either try to get him fired or to quit. Most of the time she doesn't say things to his face, but there are always people willing to share with him. Unfortunately, to get most of those people to talk "on the record" doesn't usually happen. Is there any course of action he could take to put an end to her unprofessional behavior?

Hostile work environment has to be based on an illegal motive for the hostility, ie- race or sex. If the harassment is based on this, it could become actionable. If it is just based on personality conflict or some other non-discriminatory reasons, there is no case. Visit www.kliszlaw.com to discuss further. Tim Klisz

Yes, he could quit and have you support him or he could stop bellyaching to you and be grateful he has a job.
He probably hasn't told you the real reason that HR is on his case. HR is staff and seldom gets involved in daily work issues.
