Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
I work for and live at an apartment community. This company supplies the internet and cable/sat. TV. The "cable department" supervisor who works at the company home office has threatened my job for downloading from BitTorrent sites. My question is, can he legally do so? I do live and work here but, I have a lease for my apartment like any other resident. I pay for my internet service. I have been through meetings with this figurehead of the home office and my immediate manager. To say the least, I am upset that my manager was notified and I was not alone in the meetings (another employee is in this fight with me). I would like to know if these actions qualify as defamation (telling manager, and other employees) or if his actions in confronting me at work when this downloading of copyrighted material occurred at my home on my time?

You are committing a crime, so you don't really get any legal bargaining here. Truth is a defense to defamation anyway.
