Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan
Wrongful termination
I was recently terminated for the following reasons:
1) I took half a day off at the end of the year. (This day off was approved in advance.)
2) One of my plants sent in a spreadsheet 1 1/2 months late for the end of the year processing- this caused everyone a big headache. (I processed the spreadsheet as soon as I got it and submitted it to my supervisor who told me that we didn't have time to test it and I should just give it to another senior coordinator to process it.)
3) I talked to someone else in the building about their job and this heart the senior coordinators feelings. (I was never told not to talk with anyone.)
4) Miss use of company resources (I was asking if it would be possible to create an email based Q&A for our office, because we currently were working on a paper version and when I asked my supervisor she said that it sounded like a plan. Do I have a case??

Re: Wrongful termination
Unless your employer discharges you because of a reason prohibited by law (and you mention none), you may be fired for any other reason - even though the employer is unfair, irrational, completely wrong about the reason, over-reacting, or wrongly blames you for another employee's misdeeds. The employer has a right to make a mistake.
You can gain some protection from a written contract of employment, but these are rare and usually reserved for officers or key employees.
