can an apartment complex come after me for unpaid rent if my name wasn't on the lease (I just lived there)?

No, not unless your name was on the lease, or the landlord can prove that you somehow accepted responsibility for someone whose name was on the lease (like signing a surety agreement).

I agree with the first response. I would also add that if you damaged the property and the landlord could prove it, he/she may attempt to recover from you. But as to unpaid rent, no chance unless there was some agreement between the two of you.
