Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Appealing small claims

I brought a small claims action under the landlord tenant act to reclaim my security deposit. The landlord brought a counterclaim in district court to recover rent. The landlord won, and I appealed, but at the appeal the landlord did not show up. I moved for judgment in my favor because the other party did not show. The judge said Judgment for $400 (which was what I had been asking for) but I received in the mail today judgment for the landlord in the amount of $400. Was this a mistake on the part of the Court or is there some rule regarding small claims appeals where the other party need not show up for them to win? Thanks for your help!

Re: Appealing small claims

There is no appeal from a small claims court decision. Did the landlord transfer the case to the general civil docket?
