Need to break lease for job-help

I've only been in my apartment 3 months and have been informed by my employer after 8 years that my job must be moved up state (3.5 hr. drive) to our new corporate office. They were hoping to move me up over X-mas break. I would actually welcome the move as the cost of living is far lower there & my salary would remain same. My apt. complex Mgr. is not happy about this though & said I'm responsible for paying 100% thru lease termination. My employer said a letter from company indicating I must move to remain employed should suffice legally,is this true? I'm afraid to make move preperations and can't make 2 payments.

The letter may suffice and it may not. It depends upon what the lease agreement you signed states. If there are no options out of the agreement, then you must abide by its terms. You can either live there until the lease's conclusion and then change jobs. You can ask your employer to pay the remaining lease payments for you, most employers will do so to keep an employee, so you can move now. Next time, sign a month to month lease or make sure that the lease gives the tenant a right to escape any future payments, if the tenant must move for his or her job.
