Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Charging more than court ordered

My landlord took us to court for back rent on the 06/15/09. The court gave us until 06/25/09 (10 days). We paid it all up to date on 06/25/09. The landlord then charged us an extra @25.00 added on to the rent for 07/09 stating it was a late charge for the back rent the court gave us 10 days to pay. She's charging the $25.00 because we paid the court order on the 25th rather than the 15th, can she do this?

Re: Charging more than court ordered

No, she cannot do that. You are merely obligated to pay what the court ordered you to pay and had until the 10 days were up. Furthermore, if she wanted more than what was ordered, she would have to go back to court and ask for that.
