civil subpoena question

i used to live in michigan and got small claims court judgement against me and now i have been subpoenead back to micigan for the subpoena on a landlord tenant claim .I now live in florida I have no way to get there and have no means or money what should i do

If this is a sukmmons, i.e., you have been sued in Michigan for not paying you rrent, then you need to appear or hire a lawyer or a default will probably be entered against you. That will produce another judgment against you.

On the other hand, if they are suing you, for instance, for two weeks rent and you do owe them two weeks rent and there is no defense, then you may just allow the judgment to be entered. Call whomever is suing you to see about working out terms and payment, if you do owe the money.

If the subpoena is just for you to appear as a witness, I don't believe that they can force you to come from another state. Subpoenas typically also must attach a witness fee, although that would be governed by MI law.
