Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan
Hello,
My name is Joseph Gibbie. I am seeking any advise relating to the following situation. I signed a one-year lease with The Reserve of Norton Shores (apartment complex). The complex is located in Muskegon, MI. I stayed at the complex for a few months when my job asked me to transfer to Florida. I brought this to the attention of the front office at the complex. They reviewed with their management and found that because it was a job transfer, I could terminate the lease early with NO problem or fees. So I filled out the appropriate paperwork that they gave me and gave them a letter from my work stating the transfer. I then paid exactly what they told me to, which was the amount pro-rated to my move-out date. A few months later, I recieved a call from a collections office wanted $1400. I have since tried to contact The Reserve at Norton Shores. After weeks of me trying to call ANYONE at the office, I finally talked to the new manager. She said that there were no such documents about my job transfer. I live 1500 miles away and dont know what action to take. If anyone can help me with this situation, I will be extremely grateful. I dont have a lot of money for legal advise, but if someone could at least point me in the right direction, that would be fabulous.

Just send them a copy of your paperwork you filled out at the company. If they don't buy it, use this in Court as your defense. You might want to read the lease carefully as well. It may address the situation. Good luck. www.kliszlaw.com Tim Klisz
