Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Labord for rent, now saying the labor was not for rent

Ok, my LL told me that when we made repairs to the home they would be deducted from the rent. The repairs that we did coverd 4 mo. worth of rent. When we did the repairs we asked her to write something out saying that the labor was for rent, well she never wrote the proof. Now she is trying to say that we owe her 2 mo worth of rent! And has gotten eviction papers written up. What do we do?

Unfortunatly you should always have any agreements like that in writing in advance. At this point you probably have a rental agreement or lease that states the amount of rent that you are required each month to pay. Failure to obtain that prior proof is very damaging to you. The only way it may possibly stand up in court is if the landlord refused to make repairs that were considered "Detremintal" to the habitat, once the landlord refuses to make those repairs you can do it yourself and deductit from your monthly rent.
