landlord over charged me

My landlord charged me 700$ for two little holes in the wall. He also charged me an additional 600 dollars over my security deposit. When i asked hime for recipts he said he dont have any and if i wanted to solve this go to court. Can he over charge my security deposit and should i go to court

Yes, he could charge you over your security deposit, but he would certainly need proofs to collect the fee. Take him to court. There are certain time limits that a landlord has to adhere to in collecting out of your security deposit. He must send you an itemized list of damages to be deducted from the security deposit.

In Michigan, if the tenant sends the landlord his forwarding address within 4 days of moving out, the landlord has 30 days to return the deposit or send an itemized list of damages against the deposit and the tenant has seven days to object.
